STATEMENT OF COMMITMENT
Goals & Plan

The Board of Education, administration, and staff of Laurel-Concord Public Schools are committed philosophically and through the allocation of resources to the following:

1. Improve communication with students, teachers, parents, and district patrons through continued efforts to --

a) support and develop student and adult education programs,

b) utilize the school's Homepage to promote two-way communication within the school as well as between the school and the community,

c) seek out and cultivate other avenues of communication, and

d) strengthen the participation of the Study Committee.

2. Improve accountability in instruction and assessment through the continued support of the work of the School Improvement Committees in the area of General Instruction, and in the specific areas of Science and Social Studies as required by the state.

3. Provide competitive, innovative programs to attract, develop, and retain quality, competent staff and board by supporting--

a) administrative and staff incentive plans,

b) ongoing district-wide and individual staff development, and

c) board participation in local, state, and national board development activities.

4. Support educational programs through the continued development and management of efficient and effective programs in the critical areas of technology, transportation, buildings and grounds, school safety, and collaborative partnerships with other public, professional, and educational entities or groups.

2004-2005 PRIORITIES

Priorities related to Statement of Commitment #1:

A. Board, staff, and administrators will seek opportunities to expand communication with parents.

1. Strengthen the Advisor-Advisee program.

a) Clearly define and communicate the responsibilities of teachers and students in the Advisor-Advisee program.

b) Identify and implement effective communication strategies between Advisor-Advisee room/group and parents (i.e., regular written comments from homeroom to parents or weekly messages from group to parents).

c) The board will seek opportunities to recognize and reinforce effective Advisor-Advisee groups.

2. The administration will work with staff to implement a monthly one-page flyer of school information for distribution through local businesses.

3. The administration will collect/collate student and family demographic data to use as basis for future communication efforts.

Priorities related to Statement of Commitment #3:

A. The board will develop and implement an annual board calendar that identifies by the month not only the routine items of business to be considered, but also progress reports or follow-up discussions on priorities, and topics that the board would like to have more information about.

Priorities related to Statement of Commitment #4:

A. The district will continue to explore opportunities to maintain or strengthen the quality of education by sharing staff, services, and programs with other area schools.

B. The district will continue to explore all potential sources of funding, including grants, Foundation projects, tuition, and reorganization.

C. The district will explore and develop electronic systems to deliver a quality education for students both inside and outside of the Laurel-Concord district.

1. Representatives from the administration and board will attend the TL 2 conference in Denver to learn more about available delivery systems.
