COMMUNICATION COMMITTEE
NARRATIVE REPORT ON CAPACITY ASSESSMENT

According to the survey taken on October 15, 2003, the Communication Committee feels our strengths are the following: the Information System, the Process of Schooling, the Vision, Leadership-Governance and School Community, and the Resources and Allocation areas.

Our information system contains student performance data, and analyzes that data. It is made available to faculty, students, and patrons of the district.

Under the process of schooling, our committee feels we are particularly successful in the areas of establishing learning goals, encouraging students to higher levels of achievement, and seeing the importance of the curricular areas cooperating to enhance career awareness and employability.

Under the Vision, Leadership-Governance, and School Community category, our main area of success is the leadership, commitment, support, and involvement of the school district.

In the area of Resources and Allocation the school district has dedicated sufficient resources to provide space, staff, time, materials, and instructional programs to promote academic success of all students.

We felt our weakness fell in the area of the actual School Improvement Plan. Some of our strategies are not strictly geared to the students and the area of improving reading and language arts. Some of our goals focus on improving communication and support of parents and district patrons. And while these target area goals do not directly involve our students, we believe they significantly impact their academic achievement in reading, writing and language arts.
