INSTRUCTION COMMITTEE
NARRATIVE REPORT ON GOAL PROGRESS

Since identifying Improving Reading and Language Arts as our goal in 1999, our committee has endeavored to create and implement strategies to realize that goal. Summaries of Terra Nova and ACT composite scores in both the elementary and secondary schools have shown consistent improvement. The use and success of APL strategies was documented in anecdotal feedback shared by teachers. These positive outcomes have resulted from the five strategies designed and implemented by the Instruction Committee. The following strategies are ongoing: Implementation of Seven APL Strategies; Utilization of Six-Traits Writing Process; the use of The Electronic Lesson Plan; and the use of the High Ability Learner Plan to improve instruction. Specifically, the use of the Accelerated Reader Program has had dramatic results. The strategy of Alignment of K-12 Reading and Language Arts Grade Level and Course Level expectations with Nebraska L.E.A.R.N.S. has been completed. Summaries of the Instruction Committee's work are recorded in year-end reports on our school's web-site.
