Steering Committee Minutes The Steering Committee discussed the upcoming subcommittee meetings and what needs to be accomplished at them. Dr. Hoesing stated that the membership of the external team needs to be finalized by the subcommittees. The people who are selected to be on the external team need to be asked and willing to serve. The ILCD/Wellness team members reported that they have two people who have agreed to serve. In addition to finalizing the external team membership, the subcommittees need to review their plans on the web page and add any additional resources they wish to have listed. It was reported that technical problems have caused delays in two areas. Our scores on the web page are not completely up-to-date. In addition, the climate survey is not yet available. Dr. Hoesing stated that this survey should be in draft form and the web page updated in the next few weeks. A discussion followed regarding block scheduling or partial block scheduling for the 2006-2007 school year. Block scheduling will be considered for those subject areas which would benefit from it. Distance learning and on-line classes may also be expanded to increase flexibility in students’ schedules. Dr. Hoesing shared a book entitled "walk awhile in my shoes" by Eric Harvey and Steve Ventura. The book shares messages from managers to employees and employees to managers in order to facilitate communication. Steering Committee members read and discussed the opening letters and the first section entitled “On Change”. Suggestions for how to share these writings with other staff members were discussed. Steering Committee members will lead small groups of teachers in reading and discussing the book, with a goal of finishing it by April. A second book, "What Great Teachers Do Differently", was shared with the Steering Committee. Committee members will read the Introduction and Section I, “Why Look at Great?” before the next meeting on January 10, 2006, at 7:30 a.m. Members will share comments from their book groups at this meeting also.
