Your teen needs your SUPPORT. Our Resource Department has come up with a list of tips to help your child be successful in school

  • Communicate with your teen daily about their classes, as well as their school activities.

  • Know the school's expectations. Students receive a Student-Parent Handbook during the first week of school, which outlines such policies as dress code and campus behavior. Read this with your teen so you are familiar with the rules.

  • Set your own expectations as parents. You may, for example, require your teen to complete their homework before watching TV.

  • Provide a quiet place for your child to work and study at home.

  • Know who your teen's teachers and counselor are and feel free to communicate with them. As easy way to begin this process is by attending School Conferences.

  • Check your teen's assignment notebook and help them to keep notes organized and stay on top of homework. Teachers post assignments on PowerSchool that tell what is being done each day, as well as what homework is required.

  • Encourage you teen to use the school's free tutoring programs, held after school.

  • Monitor your teen's academic progress by viewing their grades on PowerSchool.

  • Look at progress reports which arrive by mail at mid-quarter and reports cards that are sent home with students every nine weeks.

  • If attendance is a problem, students can be placed on attendance probation.
